Physicians are the key to helping patients create and manage their personal records. That's
what we believe at MedLink International and thats what makes our personal health record solution so
differnet.......it encourages the sharing
of information between doctor and patient with the goal of, what the American College
of Physicians and the American
Academy of Family Physicians have called a collaborative effort in bringing patient
Health Records, Electronic Medical
Records and other technologies into the Office to support an ongoing patient-physician
relationship.
The Department of Health and Human Services encourages the use of Personal Health
Records(PHRs):"Once equipped with the information about their health and health care choices, consumers will
be empowered to co-manage their health
and participate actively in decisions about thier care."
Personal health record systems are more than just static repositories for patient
data; they combine data, knowledge, and software tools which helps pateints to become acitve participants in their own
care.
When PHR's are integrated with a physician's helath record systems, they provide
for greater benefits than stand-alone systems for consumers.
Some of the benefits of Personal Health Records are:
- Improved Quality of Care. Patient information would
be readily available for clinicians at the point of care and would help patients improve their own care.
- Improved patient-provider relationship. PHRs improve
communication between patients and clinicians, allow documentation of interactions with patients and convey timely explanations of test
results.
- Cost Savings.Improved documentation and more efficient
exchanges of information between doctor and patientcan reduce operating costs as well as malpractice premiums.
